Treasure Exhibition’
Mildenhall Museum, Suffolk
The Roman Mildenhall Treasure was discovered in the 1940s by the ploughman
of a local land-owner. The land-owner added it to his personal collection,
telling the ploughman it was only pewter. Once uncovered, Roald Dahl
wrote a book about it, Ralph Steadman illustrated it and the British
Museum took the all-silver hoard.
Facsimiles of the treasure trove bring the story home to Mildenhall.
Supported by graphics based on the Steadman illustrations, the design
gives the collection ‘star’ treatment. By manipulating the
gallery layout, lighting and case-work, the replicas become as spectacular
as the originals.
